There was lots of good news to balance the bad as far as Hurricane Sandy is concerned for my North Wilmington neighborhood of South Graylyn Crest. The power stayed on until about 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, went off, and came back on about 10:30 a.m.
That doesn’t mean that it wasn’t scary hearing the wind last night–I couldn’t fall asleep for all the noise it was making, which is why I was awake when the power went out and all my electronic stuff started beeping. So who needs light in the middle of the night anyway?
And all it took was a match to light my gas range and make a pot of tea this morning, so that was good. And I had a chance to try out my new solar powered Red Cross radio this morning. It works really well and has a flashlight and outlet for a cell phone charger (but not to fit my plug) and a crank to power it when the sun isn’t shining.
So lots of branches were down, a pink wading pool had landed on my driveway from some distant point, and even more wet leaves were on the ground, but still more are on the trees–and there are still roses blooming in my yard.
So not such a bad report for South Graylyn Crest, North of Wilmington, Delaware.
